Information About Queensland White Card Training Online

Why do you need a White Card?

Under the Workplace Health and Safety Regulation 2008 any person undertaking construction work in Queensland must successfully complete a general safety induction course recognised by Queensland law before they start work in any construction activity. Following completion of the course, the successful participant must be issued with a statement of attainment for the course and a general induction card.

A general construction induction card or a Queensland white card is issued to a person who successfully completes training in the unit of competency -CPCCOHS1001A Work safely in the construction industry.

This course supersedes the Blue Card Safety Course, which expired June 2009.

Construction activities include housing construction, civil construction, renovations, repairs, refurbishment, asbestos removal, carpentry, bricklaying, concreting, plumbing and roof, floor and wall tiling.

Legal requirements for principal contractors, employers and self-employed people

Queensland workplace health and safety laws require that:

  • Principal contractors sight a relevant person's induction card or statement of attainment before they start construction work
  • Relevant people and workers cannot start construction work unless they hold general induction evidence.

Failing to hold a general construction induction card

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland may issue notices for failing to hold a general construction induction card. The maximum penalty for not holding or sighting a Queensland white card is $3,000 or 30 penalty units.

Tips to Succeed with on-line learning

1. Manage your time wisely

If you really want to succeed as an online student, determine the best time for you to commit to this program. Can you complete it in 4 hours or will you need to complete over a number of sittings. Commit yourself to those hours and treat it like your most important appointment each week.

2. Don’t be afraid to ask for help

If you don't understand an instruction, an assignment or anything in your course, revisit the program. The design of this white card online Queensland course is such that you can go back and review each topic as you need to. Call the office only once you have reviewed the topic area a number of times. We will do everything possible to help you succeed.

3. Watch your progress

Each topic will give you a green tick as you complete it. Even if you fail a course, don't quit. Learn from your mistakes, get back up and do it again. You will be surprised how motivated you will be as you gain more and more ticks.

Turn in all documentation as soon as possible

If you want to receive a “competency” and a white card for your hard work, remember the white card training online course does not finish when you finish on line. Have your plan ready to gather all your documentation and sent to the Reserve Training and Safety office: know where your local JP is and have your witness ready to sign the declaration. Only then when we have finalised and verified your assessments will you be issued with a White Card
